I, Donna Richardson, opened Rub Me the Right
Way Massage Center in Jan of 2004. I had a dream of providing
massage therapy to all who had many
excuses over the years for not getting massages. One excuse
was “I don’t
have time”,
so I set my hours from 9 AM to 9 PM six days a week. Then
I would hear, “it’s
just for people who want pampering”, so I created
a medical atmosphere where medical charts are a part of
my practice. With
these charts I could monitor progress and healing with
each visit and notate each client’s personal preferences
for the different massage therapists that would work on
them. In late
2006, I also started accepting insurance claims that require
a doctor’s
referral. Last,
I would hear “It’s so hard to get into see
you” so
I hired 10 massage therapists and trained them to perform
my massage techniques and made the office walk-in friendly
with no appointment needed to get in.
I
have had a passion for massage therapy since I was 8 years
old, massaging my Dad’s back while he laid on the floor
reading the paper and watching TV each night. I drew
pictures in the thick lotion for around 2 hrs each night. Although
I no longer draw pictures in the lotion on his back, I
was given the privilege of giving him massages while he
lost his battle with Bone Cancer in 2007.
In
1989, once my daughter was born, I purchased a massage
table and gave massages to my friends and family at no
charge. I enjoyed the healing that it
brought to them. Since then, I have become more passionate about massage
and its healing aspects. In 2003 when I was laid off from a long term
job, I decided to practice full time what I had always loved to do, massage
therapy! I started school in August of 2003 at Oceans Massage School
and in Jan 2004, when I opened Rub Me the Right Way, I hired 3 licensed massage
therapists with my massage dream in mind. I opened my business before
finishing school in Feb of 2004 with my therapists doing the massages and me
running the front desk. Once I took my State exam in May 2004 and
received my license in June of 2004, I hired a receptionist and started doing
massages as well. After a year of hiring more massage
therapists, I proceeded to take over 150 hrs of continuing
education which consisted of 12 hrs of Prenatal Massage,
8 hrs of Hot Rock Massage, 12 hrs of Sports Massage and
Deep Tissue Work, 30 hrs of The Art of Teaching Massage,
54 hrs of MEDICAL MASSAGE, 6 hrs of Repetitive Stress Injury
Relief, 6 hrs of reflexology and 24 hrs of Massage Ethics
and Laws.
Once
receiving my Instructor's License, I proceeded to write 3 state
approved continuing education courses – Hot Rock, Mother-to-Be, & Sports Massage. I
am now currently working on a continuing education course entitled “Medical
Massage” and just recently prepared a 500 hour program for my massage
school which opens Jan 2008. Since becoming an instructor, I have taught
over 100 hours of Continuing Education classes to Licensed Massage Therapist
all over West Texas. In July of 2006, I also taught the Intensive Basic
course to 10 students for Austin Schools of Massage. With
all of this training, I take pride in making sure that
my staff has the training needed to provide clients with
all the different massage therapies that Rub Me the Right
Way offers.
Although
Rub Me the Right Way Massage Center is no longer open until
9 PM (we now close at 8 PM Mon.-Fri. and Sat. at 5 PM),
we all still strive to provide a professional atmosphere. With a client base of over 10,000 (as of 1/2008), ranging
from 5 years old to 95 years old, recent remodeling accommodates our growing
needs. Rub Me the Right Way is growing to make our clients’ needs
even more convenient and our wonderful and caring staff
gives you the personalized attention you need to feel better.
